Telangana govt focusing on irrigation projects, says CM

Telangana government today said it is determined to provide water to one crore acres of land through the existing and proposed irrigation projects and will also continue with free power scheme for farmers.
The government made the assertion during a meeting presided over by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
During the meet, the CM reviewed Kaleswaram, Palamuru, Dindi and Sitarama Irrigation Projects with senior officials of Irrigation Department and Energy Minister Jagadish Reddy, an official release said.
"The government is allotting Rs 25,000 crore every year in the budget for irrigation projects. Every month Rs 2,100 crore will be allotted to the Irrigation Department for spending on various projects.
"The Government is also determined to continue free power scheme, which is costing Rs 4,000 crore per annum to the exchequer, for farmers," Rao said.
By redesigning some of the irrigation projects, the Government will be able to use at least 1,000 tmc water from Krishna and Godavari rivers which flows into the sea and gets wasted, the Chief Minister said.
