Telangana govt to take up water grid project

Telangana government will soon embark on an ambitious project of laying a water grid across the state to ensure drinking water supply to all households.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today held a meeting with ministers, officials and others on the proposed project that involves several government departments.
The issue of coordination among different government departments and agencies was discussed at the meeting and Rao gave directives on different issues, a release from his office said.
Rao said 29 'intake wells' would be built from next month and work for providing electricity should also be taken up simultaneously.
The forest department officials would give blanket permission for laying pipelines and electricity poles in forest areas, the release said.
The rural water supply, panchayat raj and roads and buildings departments would work in coordination while laying pipelines along roads.

The electricity department would supply power for construction of sub-stations at intake wells for pumping, lifting and water treatment. The government would give Right of Way for laying electricity poles.
It has been decided to build 56 water treatment plants across the state. Blanket permission would also be given for laying pipelines and electricity lines on government lands, the release said.
A meeting would be held with ministers, MPs and MLAs to create understanding for them on the project and also for removing problems that may crop up on the field.
It has also been decided to appoint a committee of concerned secretaries to review issues concerning the grid, the release added.
