A senior IPS officer has applied for VRS in Andhra Pradesh allegedly in protest against reported proposal to create Rayala-Telangana in the event of bifurcation of the state.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of APSP Battalion, Sheikh Mohammed Iqbal, forwarded letters seeking voluntary retirement to state Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy and also to the Chief Secretary P K Mohanty, citing personal reasons.
"I have put in my papers yesterday for VRS due to personal reasons," Iqbal told PTI tonight.
However, he did not comment when asked on the media reports that stated that the DIG was seeking VRS in protest against possible division of Rayalaseema region and on the move to merge Kurnool and Anantapur districts (of Rayalaseema) with Telangana.
"...I can't offer my comments (at this stage)...Till it (application for VRS) is accepted," the DIG added.
Congress and UPA government appeared to be veering towards formation of a separate Telangana state, with party leader in charge of Andhra Pradesh and Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh earlier saying that the consultation process is over and time for a decision has come.
"The process of consultation is over. And the time to take a decision has come," he had told reporters in New Delhi on July 26.
