While as many as 13 cases were registered against protesters for indulging in violence and arson on Necklace Road during the march, Kondandaram and others were booked on charge of staying put at Sanjivaiah Park on Necklace Road--the venue of the 'Telangana March'--beyond the permitted deadline, a senior police officer told PTI tonight.
Hyderabad Police had permitted the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) to take out the march and to hold the meeting between 3 PM and 7 PM, though the protest continued beyond the permitted time and it was called off only at around midnight.
"As of now 13 cases were filed under relevant sections of IPC with Ramgopalpet and Saifabad Police stations against the (statehood supporters) in connection with the violence," the officer said, adding Kondandaram and others are named in a case for violating the deadline to vacate the venue.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) has also registered a case in connection with damage to signalling system at Necklace Road railway station, officials said.
The SIT of Hyderabad Police will further take up the investigations into the violence-related incidents including attack on police personnel, torching of police and private vehicles besides damaging public and private property, they said.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma yesterday said he suspected the role of "Left-wing extremists" in stirring up the violence resulting in massive damage to properties and arson as the activists defied prohibitory orders and joined the 'Telangana march' for a separate state.
Hyderabad Police had also blamed the T-JAC for going back on its word to organise the march in a peaceful and democratic way.
