Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today directed officials to study the possibility of producing wind and solar energy in the State in addition to thermal and hydel power.
Representatives of a company who have experience in power production met Rao here and submitted several proposals, a release from his office said.
They proposed to produce 800 MW of solar and wind power in Telangana by 2018 and make an investment of Rs 6,000 crore.
Asking officials concerned to study the possibilities for wind and solar power, Rao said fresh tenders for solar energy projects can be called, if necessary. Tenders had been called for the purpose earlier.
Observing that the demand for power in agriculture is about 2,000 MW, Rao favoured linking solar energy system to agriculture pumpsets to benefit the farmers.
The Chief Minister suggested promoting wind power in some selected villages on an experimental basis.
He asked officials to prepare plans to ensure that there is no shortage of power even if the industries, IT firms, business and commercial establishments in Hyderabad worked for 24 hours, the release added.
