Telangana on fire; light rain in Rajasthan

Telangana continued to be in the grip of a raging heatwave today even as there was a slight dip in the mercury in Rajasthan which saw light rain at some places.
Delhi saw a maximum temperature of 38.7 degrees Celsius, a notch below the average while the minimum settled at 28.4 degrees Celsius, two notches below the normal, the MeT said.
There was no "large" change in maximum temperatures in Telangana during the last 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The temperatures were above normal at one or two places while the highest maximum temperature of 46 degrees Celsius was recorded at Ramagundam and Nalgonda, it said.
Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at a few places in all districts of Telangana for next three days starting today.
According to a senior official of the State Disaster Management, as many as 167 people have died reportedly due to heatwave-related ailments since April 1 this year.

The day temperatures dipped by few notches at many places in Rajasthan even as light to moderate rainfall occurred at isolated areas of the state.
Kota was recorded as the hottest place with a maximum temperature of 43.8 degrees Celsius.
Jaisalmer, Sriganganagar, Churu and Jaipur recorded maximum of 41.4, 41.3, 41 and 40.6 degrees Celsius respectively.
The maximum temperature in several parts of Punjab and Haryana today stayed around levels normal for the season, even as rains lashed few places in both states.
Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 39.5 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal, as per a MeT department report.
The city also witnessed rain of 0.5 mm, it said.
Hisar was the hottest place in Haryana with 44.1 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, while Karnal and Ambala recorded a high of 39.4 and 40.1 degrees Celsius, respectively.
In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a maximum temperature of 38.6 degree Celsius, a notch below normal, while Ludhiana and Patiala registered 39.2 and 40.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.
