Telangana supporters protest against Y S Vijayamma's visit
Press Trust of India Hyderabad Telangana supporters and others staged protests today against the visit of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) President Y S Vijayamma to rain-hit Khammam and Nalgonda districts, since the party supports a "united" Andhra Pradesh.
Telangana supporters raised slogans against the YSRCP and tried to block her way during the visit, forcing the police to intervene.
Vijayamma, who went to Hyderabad by road, took exception to the police "preventing" her from meeting rain-affected people.
"Is it wrong to interact with the public? Are we living in a democratic country or not? The Chief Minister himself claims to be an integrationist. Will the police arrest him too, if he visits Telangana," a YSRCP release quoted her as saying.
"People in Telangana have shown abundant love and affection towards Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, just as they did towards Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. It was proved in time and again in earlier elections too. Rajasekhara Reddy always aspired that Andhra Pradesh should be intact for faster development and growth. Jaganmohan Reddy too believes that the state should be kept united for the development of all the three regions," she said.
