Temp rises in northern states, snowfall in parts of HP

High-altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh witnessed snowfall and some parts of Kashmir Valley received rains overnight even as the mercury rose in most of the northern states today.
Overcast conditions prevailed in the national capital with the minimum temperature settling at 15.4 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season's average. The maximum temperature was recorded at 27 degrees Celsius.
There was huge improvement in night temperatures across Kashmir division, including Ladakh region.
Leh, in Ladakh region, recorded a low of minus 1 degree Celsius, while the nearby Kargil town was the coldest recorded place in the state with a low of minus 4.8 degrees Celsius.
Minimum temperatures at most places in Kashmir settled above the freezing point last night. The mercury has continuously marked upward movement in the last few days owing to overcast conditions.
A MeT official said, many places in the Valley received rains overnight, but there were no reports of snowfall.
The mercury in Srinagar settled at a low of 5.1 degrees Celsius, while in Qazigund, the minimum temperature was 2.6 degrees Celsius.
The mercury rose by a few notches across Himachal Pradesh and minimum temperatures stayed five to eight notches above normal, even as high altitude tribal areas witnessed another spell of snowfall.
The sky remained partially clouded and chilly winds swept the mid and higher hills.
Minimum temperatures rose by a few notches and stayed five to eight degrees aboves normal barring Keylong, Kalpa and Manali where mercury settled at 0.9 degrees Celsius, 1 degree Celsius and 7 degrees Celsius respectively.
Minimum temperatures rose by several notches above normal limits in most parts of Punjab and Haryana. Chandigarh recorded a low of 14.5 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal.
In Haryana, Ambala registered a low of 15.1 degrees Celsius, while Hisar had a low of 12.6 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal.
In Punjab, Amritsar registered a low of 12.2 degrees Celsius, up five notches, while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded minimum temperatures of 15.5 degrees Celsius and 13.5 degrees Celsius respectively.
