Temperature dipped today after light rains lashed several parts of Punjab and Haryana, including Chandigarh for the second day, even as farmers are worried the change in weather might damage wheat crops.
Union Territory Chandigarh received light rain which was accompanied by strong winds during the day. The maximum temperature settled here at 33 degrees Celsius, the MeT Department's report said here.
Though the rains have brought down the mercury, it has become a cause of worry for farmers as even a drizzle is considered harmful for the standing (ready to harvest) wheat crops at this time.
"A farmer does not want even a drop of rain at this time. Inclement weather can cause serious damage to ripened wheat," said Gurnam Singh, a Ludhiana based farmer.
Rains lashed Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Ropar, Mohali, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Phagwara and some other places in Punjab, the report said.
In Haryana, Ambala, Hisar, Karnal, Panchkula, Kalka and Panipat also received rainfall, it said.
