While neighbouring Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir were witnessing good rains, no showers have been witnessed in Punjab and Haryana for almost one month.
The rainfall deficiency faced by the two states hovers in the range of over 70 per cent.
Narnaul in Haryana was the hottest place today with a high of 39.5 degree Celsius, up five notches, the MeT said here.
Sweltering weather prevailed in Hisar, where the maximum settled at 38.1 deg C, up four degrees. Rohtak, too, had a hot and humid day at 36.6 deg C, up three degrees.
Ambala and Chandigarh recorded identical maximums of 34.1 deg C each.
In Punjab, Patiala braved a hot day at 34.8 deg C, up three degrees while Amritsar's maximum was 33.2 deg C.
The MeT has forecast light to moderate rain or thunder showers at isolated places in the two states over the next two days.
