Mercury plummeted below 40 degrees Celsius level after the region witnessed rains in some places in the last 24 hours.
The highest temperature was recorded in Punjab's Patiala at 39.1 degrees Celsius three notches below normal, the MeT department said, adding that the joint capital Chandigarh registered 38.8 degrees Celsius.
In Haryana, Hisar and Narnaul recorded sharp decline in mercury at 35 deg C each, seven notches below normal. Hisar and Narnaul received rainfall of 14 mm and 111 mm in the last 24 hours.
In Punjab, Ludhiana and Patiala had high of 37.7 deg C and 39.1 deg C respectively, down three notches from normal level and Amritsar, which received 0.4 mm rainfall, recorded 36.2 deg C.
MeT department, in its forecast, said weather would remain dry in Punjab and Haryana in next 24 hours.
