Chandigarh, the capital of both the states, recorded a high of 34.9 degrees Celsius, the local MeT office said here.
In Haryana, the maximum temperature in Ambala settled at 36.1 deg C while Bhiwani's maximum was 33 deg C.
Hisar registered a high of 34 deg C, while Narnaul's and Rohtak's mercury settled at 31.5 deg and 35.4 deg C respectively.
In Punjab, Amritsar and Ludhiana recorded highs of 35.4 and 34.5 degrees Celsius respectively.
The MeT has forecast light to moderate rain or thunder showers at a few places in Haryana and Punjab over the next two days.
