Yasir Alfaz, accused in the desecration of a temple in Jammu on Tuesday, was today remanded to six days' police custody by a local court here.
Duty magistrate Jammu Parveen Pandoh sent Alfaz to police custody, holding that police plea for his custodial interrogation was well founded.
Police had earlier said that Alfaz, who had allegedly desecrated the temple in Roopnagar area, was "mentally unsound".
After police produced Alfaz, the magistrate went through the case diary (CD) and said investigations were in its initial stage.
"The grounds enumerated in the application seeking police remand are well founded," the judge said while remanding Alfaz to police custody up to June 22.
The magistrate directed the investigating officer to expedite investigation and get the accused medically examined under rules.
