Temple honours from R'swamy temple to Lord Venketeswara temple
Press Trust of India Tiruchirappalli : "Vastra Mariyathai" (temple honours like Silk Dhoti), flowers, fruits, sandalwood paste and Umbrella would be taken from Sri Ranganathaswamy temple here, considered the foremost among 108 Vishnu temples in India, to the presiding deity of Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirupati tomorrow, a top temple official said here today.
Temple Executive Officer Jayaraman said the honour would be taken around the four 'Uthira' streets before its onward journey to Tirupathy on the first of the Tamil Month Adi tomorrow.
The chairman of board of Trustees Venu Srinivasan and trustees would participate in the function, he said.
The presiding procession deity, Namperumal Sri Ranganatha, stayed in Tirumala during the Muslim invasion of Tamil Nadu for about 50 years and the honours are being sent to commemorate the days when the deity stayed in Tirupathi.
It is also believed that in the earlier days Pooja articles, including flowers, used to be taken to Tirumala temple from Srirangam by devotees and the two temples exchanged hounours in those days.
