The accused, identified as Vipin Kumar Shukla, is pursuing B.Com degree from the School of Open Learning in Delhi University. He is a resident of east Delhi's Anand Vihar area, where his father works as a priest in a temple.
The police received the complaint against Shukla on September 4 and nabbed him from northeast Delhi's Shahdara area yesterday, said DCP (Special Cell) P S Kushwah.
Shukla had allegedly procured a SIM card on a fictitious identity, which he used in the extortion bid.
Shukla has been booked under relevant sections of the IPC, said Kushwah.
Shukla's family shifted to Delhi in 2006 and he arrived here two years later, Kushwah added.
