Seventy publishers from across the country including Kolkata, Delhi, Patna, Mumbai will display their publications in over 250 stalls during the ten-day long fair, to be organized by Tagore Society, Jamshedpur, Ashis Chowdhury, General Secretary of the Society said.
Chowdhury, who was flanked by the President of the Society Dr H S Paul and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the fair Abhoy Shankar Sarkar, told newsmen that Jamshedpur Book Fair has gained popularity in the steel city and surrounding region and was registering an increase in the the sale of books year by year.
Asked whether the Union Government's decision to withdraw Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes would have any impact on the fair, Chowdhury said such possibility was likely in the first couple of days .
The exchange of old currency notes of the denomination will consume at least two/three days, which was likely to impact on the purchase of books, he said.
Chowdhury said the last edition of the fair had witnessed sale of book to the tune of around Rs 80 to 90 lakhs during the ten-day fair and expressed confidence that figure was likely to go up to Rs 90 lakh this year.
