Ten people fined in J-K for smoking in public places

"A joint anti-tobacco squad, comprising of representatives from Drug and Food Control Organisation, Health Department and police caught 10 people smoking in public places. A fine of Rs 1,900 was recovered from them," a spokesman of the Divisional Administration of Kashmir said.

He said those caught smoking in public places include two employees of University of Kashmir, one employee each of NIT and Chest Diseases Hospital here.

Smoking in public places is prohibited under Section 4 of Cigarettes & Other Tobacco Products, Prohibition of Advertisement & Regulation of Trade & Commerce, Production, Supply & Distribution Act (COPTA) 2003.
