Tenant farmer commits suicide after suffering crop losses

A 40-year-old tenant farmer, grief-stricken after loss of his cotton crop, committed suicide by consuming pesticide in Krishna district.
M Lakshmaiah, a native of Gandepalli village of Kanchikacherla Mandal area, had taken two acres of land on lease for cotton farming. He suffered huge losses for two years due to failure of the crop, the police said today.
This year, the crop raised on the leased land was hit by incessant rains due to which he was unable to clear off his debts, the police said.
Yesterday evening, he committed suicide by consuming pesticide in his field.
Lakshmaiah is survived by his wife and two children.
The Kachikacherla police has registered a case.
