BJP functionary's death triggers tension in Coonoor

A local BJP functionary was today found dead in his friend's house here, triggering tension, as the family suspect some foul play.

Police said, on information, they rushed to the house and recovered the body of 29-year-old K S Manikandan, BJP's Coonoor unit Secretary, who was found hanging in the wee hours.

Since the parents of Manikandan and party workers raised doubts over the death and did not want the postmortem to be conducted locally, the body was sent to the Government Medical College Hospital in neihgbouring Coimbatore, police said.

Security has been beefed up in and around the town and a woman with whom Manikandan was said to be in an affair with was being interrogated, police added.
