A man attempted suicide here after allegedly being mistreated by a police official who came to his home to inquire about kidnapping of his daughter by a Dalit youth, as tension prevailed in the village and additional police force was deployed to avert any violence.
Police said the Rajappa, who consumed poison, was rushed to Hosur Government Hospital and after first aid shifted to a private hospital in neighbouring Bangalore.
District Superintendent of Police P Kannammal, who visited
the village, said the situation was under control with deployment of police personnel, adding special police teams had been formed to search for the 22-year old woman.
Sub-Inspector Madhanalogan, against whom the woman's family had given a complaint of harassment, had been shifted to Armed Reserve Police, she added.
According to a complaint lodged by Rajapaa's family, his daughter Deepa, a student of a private college in Hosur, was kidnapped by C Kubendran (24) of Koottur village on May 25 last.
