'Territorial Army's eco-battalions doing a commendable job'

Showering praises on eco-battalions of Territorial Army for their contribution to afforestation in Uttarakhand, director of Forest Research Institute, Dehradun P P Bhojvaid today said they were doing a commendable job.
"The eco-battalions of Territorial Army are doing a commendable job on afforestation of degraded and disturbed sites in Uttarakhand, especially in the Mussoorie hills," Bhojvaid said, inaugurating a week-long training programme on nursery and plantation technology at the institute.
He said the training programme will provide scientific inputs on nursery raising and plantation managements to personnel of the eco-battalions based in Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand.
The training module includes the techniques of seed dormancy pretreatments, seed storage, clonal propagation of bamboo, nursery techniques of important tree species of India besides lectures on soil fertility management in nursery and plantations and management of fungal and insect-pest diseases.
The eco-battalions are a task force constituted to maintain ecological balance.
