The recent spate of terrorist attacks across the world was a cause for concern for the city police, Mumbai Police Commissioner Datta Padsalgikar today said.
"Over the years population has increased, things have changed and definitely the problems have increased too. But as it is the financial capital of the country, whatever happens here has repercussions all over. And what happens elsewhere is a matter of concern for all of us. Whether it's terror attack in Istanbul or Dhaka, we have to keep our antenna up and simultaneously work out certain measures," he said.
The top cop was addressing students at an interaction, 'Responsible Youth-Safer City', organised by Public Concern for Governance Trust.
"To make Mumbai safe and secure...Public participation is of great value and we all look forward to reach out to the people in various forms," he said.
"Without you all, we cannot keep Mumbai safe."
To a question on radicalisation of youth and instances of youth from the city going to the Middle East to join IS, he said, without naming any community, that it was a matter of concern for police, while adding that the "best response came from the parents, the peer group and teachers".
"They took the lead to tell us and pleaded to wean them (the youths) away from these sort of activities," the commissioner said.
