The Ministry of Home Affairs has adviced the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to get the decibel level of its garbage vehicles tested to look for any noise pollution.
The information was shared by Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Ahir in response to a written question in Rajya Sabha.
Asked whether the government is aware that the "ear splitting announcements" by the garbage vans of the civic body cause noise pollution, the minister said, "NDMC has intimated that the announcement is only to inform the people about arrival of the garbage collection vehicles for door to door collection".
"It starts from 7 AM onwards and its decibel noise is less than other vehicles and their horns on the road. The Ministry of Home Affairs has adviced NDMC to get the announcement's decibel level tested to look for any noise pollution and take necessary action accordingly," the minister said.
