Lashing out at the SAD-BJP coalition government in the state for its alleged all round failure, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari today cautioned party workers against backstabbing by some of its own people.

Addressing a series of public rallies in support of party candidates contesting Block Samiti and Zilla Parishad elections in Jagaraon Assembly segment here, Tewari said despite best efforts of party workers, Congress candidate from Jagaraon Isher Singh Meharban lost by just about two hundred votes as some people from within the party worked against him.

"Had it not been internal sabotage, the situation in Punjab would be different," he regretted while referring to the alleged poor law and order situation, shattered economy, widespread unemployment and rampant drug peddling and addiction prevailing in Punjab under the Akali regime.

"The Congress is strong enough to meet any challenge and if anybody could damage the party it was only enemies from within," he warned.

Tewari expressed confidence that despite alleged pressure tactics and arm twisting attempts by the Akalis in Punjab, Congress candidates were in a strong position to make the Akalis bite dust.

The very fact that people were present in great numbers at Congress rallies showed how much they are disappointed with the Akalis, he added.
