Tewari seeks probe into drug mafia-real estate investor nexus

Congress leader Manish Tewari today expressed concern over the "fast spreading menace" of drug consumption in Punjab and sought a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the reports of drug money being laundered through real estate investments in the state.
Talking to reporters here after inaugurating a free orthopaedic check-up camp today, the former union minister said that drug trade in Punjab was "quite huge" and the money was reportedly being invested in the real estate which needs to be probed.
Drug peddlers' routes of investments, like real estate, need to be blocked, he said, adding, till the time the 'nexus' between the narcotic suppliers and the real estate developers was not smashed, drug trade and narcotic consumption would continue to flourish in Punjab.

Asked about the reports of the change of guard at the PCC, Tewari said it was always the prerogative of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and she was already having discussions with senior leaders of the state and a decision was expected soon.
To a question about his name doing rounds in the media for appointment as the PCC president, Tewari said, he had no knowledge nor had he been told anything by the party.
However, he added, whatever responsibility the party deems fit to entrust him with, he will always perform it.
