Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra today arrived in Pakistan on a two-day official visit to deepen economic ties.
State-run Pakistan Television showed the Thai leader emerging from her plane to be greeted by the Pakistani minister for science and technology.
Shinawatra is accompanied by a business delegation and will meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari.
"Pakistan and Thailand enjoy strategic locations in their respective regions which makes them centres of economic activity," Foreign Ministry spokesman Aizaz Chaudhry said.
"Prime Minister Shinawatra's visit would mark yet another important step forward in reinforcing the mutually beneficial relationship between the two important countries and open up new vistas for bilateral cooperation," he said.
Bilateral trade between the two countries touched nearly USD 1 billion during 2012 which is heavily tilted in favour of Thailand.
It is the first visit by a Thai leader in more than a decade since Thaksin Shinawatra, the current premier's brother, visited Pakistan as Prime Minister in July 2002.
