Thane construction firm booked for cheating flat buyers

Thane police have filed a cheating case against the management of a renowned construction firm for alleged delay in handing over the flat possession to the buyers.
The buyers, yesterday, squatted in front of the Vartak Nagar police station demanding action against the construction firm management, police said.
The police have booked the members of the management under section 420 (cheating) of the IPC and also under the Maharashtra Housing (Regulation and Development) Act of 2012.
According to the complaint filed by the home buyers, they had booked flats way back in 2009 and the builder had promised to give them possession in the year 2011.
The complainants had made a payment of 92 per cent of the flat cost so far and only 8 per cent was remaining to be paid, it said.
But till date the builder has not completed the project nor given possession of the flat to the complainants, the police said.

The builder has been since long only giving dates after dates for possession with no results. He has also made changes in the plans and amenities to be provided, the complaint said.
There are around 900 flat buyers in this mega project which as six towers.
Meanwhile, the representative of the developers, told the media that the company has applied for Occupancy Certificate and once the same is available the possession would be given.
He said that the project was linked to rental housing and certain approvals were awaited from agencies, he pointed out.
As these agencies delayed the approvals the project got delayed, he said.
