Thane NCP corporator among 4 held for beating civic contractor

An NCP corporator in Thane Municipal Corporation and three others were today arrested for allegedly manhandling and threatening a civic contractor, who is also an office-bearer of Shiv Sena's local unit, police said.
Two others have also been booked in connection with this incident that took place at Poundpada in Kalwa yesterday afternoon, police said.
Chandrakant Kalambe, who is the Atkondeshwar Nagar shakha pramukh (branch head) of Shiv Sena in Kalwa, had lodged a complaint with the police.
Based on the complaint, Mahesh Salvi, the NCP corporator in TMC and three others- Pankaj Pandey, Dadi Mistry and Ravindra Mourya were arrested, police said adding that two others were also booked.
The complaint said that the corporator, accompanied by other accused, came to a chawl located in Poundpada around 4.30 pm yesterday and asked the occupants as to who gave them water connection. Thereafter, they snapped the water pipeline with a gas cutter, police said.
"As per the complaint, when the contractor (Kalambe) objected to their action, the accused abused and manhandled him. They also threatened to harm his family," senior inspector M M Bagvan of Kalwa police station said.

The accused have been booked under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), 147 (rioting) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object of the IPC), among others.
Kalambe's wife Mangala is a Shiv Sena corporator in the civic body.
Further investigation is on, police said.
