Thane woman arrested for allegedly circulating fake currency

A 32-year-old woman from Mumbra who allegedly circulated counterfeit currency notes has been arrested, police sources said here today.
Senior police inspector S R Shivarkar of the Dombivili police station named the arrested woman as Reshma Rajesh Bharat, adding that she had been charged under Section 489(B) of the Indian Penal Code.
He said that the lady went to the shop of one Krishna Kumar Yadav who sold maxis and ladies' tops on March 12 and purchased a top worth Rs 150.
She paid him with a Rs 1,000 currency note after which she got back a balance of Rs 850 from him and she went away.
The shopkeeper went to Union Bank in Dombivili to deposit the cash and delivered Rs 7,000 in a denomination of seven Rs 1,000 notes.
The bank staff detected one currency note to be a fake and returned it to him, due to which he could deposit only Rs 6,000.

The next day, the same lady purchased another top from his shop and paid him a Rs 1,000 note.
However, after the shopkeeper inspected the note, he noticed that the series number of the earlier fake currency note and the present currency note given to him by the lady were the same.
He immediately informed the police which arrested the lady from whom eight more such fake currency notes were seized.
Police sources said that the shopkeeper's alertness helped nab the lady who dealt in counterfeit currency notes.
The police is probing if any more people are involved in the racket.
