A 30-year-old housewife was allegedly duped into paying a sum of Rs 30,000 by a group of cheats under the pretext of providing her with the services of a domestic help, police said today.
According to a complaint lodged by victim Mansi Vikram Khurana at the Vartak Nagar police station yesterday, she paid the amount for availing services from Shobita Maid Bureau in New Delhi, whom she had contacted to get a housemaid.
The complaint said that she co-ordinated with one Anil, who promised to arrange for a 20-year-old housemaid Manju Jha from Ambia Gumla of Jharkhand. She was to be sent to Mumbai along with one Lalit Mukhia.
On May 9, the victim met both Manju and Mukhia, to whom she made the payment at the Mumbai Central Railway station.
Later, the woman took the girl to her home in Thane. However, she left the house on the same day without informing any one and is not traceable since then, police was told.
Also the victim made frantic calls to both Anil and Mukhia but could not reach them, police said.
The trio have been booked for the offence and efforts are on to nab them, they said.
