Throwing up indications of a high stake battle on the cards in Tharali, both the Congress and BJP launched their campaign for their respective candidates in the constituency today with senior party leaders addressing poll meetings there.
While, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat highlighted steps taken by his government for the development of remote hill areas of the state including Tharali at an election meeting there, former chief minister Harish Rawat said victory in the bypoll will pave the way for Congress' electoral victories across the country.
Claiming that most of the development work in Tharali was done during his tenure, the former CM said it was not fair on the part of the BJP to accuse the Congress of doing nothing when it's own government was not doing anything for the constituency.
Senior party leader Indira Hridayesh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was fond of saying only his own Mann ki baat but never heard what people had to say.
She also accused Modi of distorting history and called him a "prime minister who had told the highest number of lies".
BJP's Munni Devi and Congress's Jeetram today filed their nominations from the seat where a bypoll is slated to be held on May 28.
