It has been announced that the follow-up to the recently ending legal drama had been given straight-to-series order by the network's subscription-only streaming company CBS All Access, reported Ace Showbiz.
The spin-off will center on Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) and Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo), the latter of which just joined the show in the seventh and final season of the flagship series.
There will be new characters and the story will pick up one year after the events in "The Good Wife" finale.
"The Good Wife" creators Robert and Michelle King will co-write the first episode and serve as executive producers for the spin-off, but will not run the new series. Other executive producers are Phil Alden Robinson, Ridley Scott, David Zucker, Brooke Kennedy and Liz Glotzer.
CBS Digital Media exec vp and general manager Marc DeBevoise added, "'The Good Wife' is consistently one of our most-watched series across digital platforms, and this new series, with the incredible storytellers and marquee talent that have signed on, is a perfect addition to CBS All Access's premium original programming slate."
"The Good Wife" spin-off is set for a spring 2017 debut.
