Chasing history to become the first Bangladeshi club to win the 118-year-old IFA Shield, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club is here on a mission and the job is not yet done, coach Josheph Afusi said today.
After stunning 28-time champions East Bengal 3-0 in a completely one-sided affair, the Nigerian said they were finally finding their feet on the difficult Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan artificial surface.
"We are getting used to the conditions now and finding our rhythm after the initial struggle. We are getting used to this surface now. We are now going in the right direction but the job is not yet done," Afusi said reflecting on their team's motive to win the Shield.
The Dhanmondi club continued their fine momentum as their foreigner trio of Nigerian Ameka Darlington (22nd), Haitians Sony Norde (37th) and Wedson Anselme (66th) scored a goal each to complete the East Bengal rout.
Dhanmondi had earlier ousted Mohun Bagan in the group stage by a solitary goal of Sony to deny a local derby in the semifinals.
East Bengal assistant coach Ranjan Chowdhury, however, refused to be bogged down by the defeat and said it's time to train their guns on the I-League.
Without blaming anyone, he said: "The entire team flopped. It's a defeat for everybody ... It happens in football and unfortunately it was not our day today. We have to focus on the I-League now.
