comes weeks after the two nations signed a landmark extradition treaty and a liberalised visa agreement. JCC, which was set up during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Dhaka in September 2011, met for the first time here in May last year. The commission aims at jointly coordinating and overseeing implementation of initiatives taken by the two governments and "explore newer avenues for cooperation". A variety of issues, ranging from river water sharing and land boundary to trade and investment, are likely to come up during the discussions. Matters concerning facilitating smooth cross-border transit, management of the 4,000 km common border, environment, infrastructure projects, education and culture may also come up. The Indo-Bangla ties have been on the upswing since Sheikh Hasina came to power in 2009. With greater cooperation, economic activity between the two nations has also grown. In 2011, India had pledged to invest USD one billion to build infrastructure in Bangladesh.
