"The Middle" spin-off focusing on Sue Heck is moving forward, actor Eden Sher has confirmed.
The pilot of the new show is being currently filmed.
The development came after talk surfaced about a potential new ABC show a few months ago.
"We are shooting a pilot. I hope it gets picked up. I think it's going to be great," Sher told TVLine on the sidelines of San Diego Comic-Con.
Without giving away much, the actor explained it would take place "somewhere in between the end of the show" and the flash-forward several years at the very end of "The Middle".
The original sitcom, which ran from 2009-2018, ended with Sue still in college, though in the flash-forward it was revealed that she eventually married her longtime friend Sean.
"The Middle" also starred Patricia Heaton, Neil Flynn, Charlie McDermott and Atticus Shaffer.
