When he is not brainstorming about issues related to city's traffic, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Muktesh Chander enjoys displaying his musical prowess with the flute, playing mainly for friends and family.
"I am a self-taught flutist. I had taken up the flute when I was young and continued with my hobby since then. Initially, I used to play the flute and mouth organ for my friends and family but later got an opportunity to perform in front of an audience who appreciated my talent," Chander told PTI.
The top cop, who says he has had no formal training, gave a solo recital at the Siri Fort Auditorium here a few years ago during a function to pay tribute to Mohammed Rafi.
Chander, who was awarded the President's Police Medal for meritorious service says the recital, which included Rafi's daughter, several Bollywood stars and music directors in the audience, is close to his heart.
"We have always tried to give a platform to upcoming artists and Muktesh Chander is one such artist whom we are supporting," says Rakesh Gupta, Founder of Routes 2 Root, a non commercial organisation, which brings diverse people and cultures in the world together by hosting cultural programs.
The IPS officer is scheduled to launch his first album here tommorow.
"I have never believed in the commercialisation of my talent. I am not a renowned artist and neither do I have a formal training like a professional flautist. So, this album is just for my family and friends who have encouraged me to stick to my hobby and take it further in my life. It is not on sale in the markets," says Chander.
Out of the 10 songs in the album, nine are old classics and one from a much recent film "Ashique 2".
