According to District Entertainment Officer Manoj Vachpayee, the theatre owners are not prepared to screen the controversial film 'Shorgul' due to fear of opposition to it. The film would be released on July 1.
Meanwhile, the district administration has assured the theatre owners of providing security.
"There is no ban on the film here and adequate security will be provided to the threatre owners when they screen the film," District Magistrate D K Singh said.
'Shorgul' has been shot in the backdrop of Muzaffarnagar communal riots in Uttar Pradesh.
The movie, featuring Jimmy Shergill and Ashutosh Rana in lead roles, is based on friendship between a Hindu boy and a Muslim girl that snowballs into a political issue leading to unrest and chaos in society.
