A theft of golden ornaments worth lakhs of rupees was today reported in the house of late Pankaj Roy, former cricketer, police sources said.
"Today the family members found that some ornaments are missing from a safe. There have been no signs of force on the safe. Preliminary investigations reveal that key has been used to open the safe," Pallab Kanti Ghosh, JT CP (crime) said.
A case has been registered, he said.
Roy, who died in 2001, was an Indian Test cricketer. A right-handed opening batsman, he is best known for establishing the world record opening partnership of 413 runs in Test cricket with Vinoo Mankad against New Zealand at Chennai. The record stood until 2008.
