"'Shubh Mangal Saavdhan' is a very challenging and entertaining film for me, it's a gutsy film. It touches a subject that you can't talk in open, but I am showing it in a way that people can talk about it openly," Rai told PTI.
The "Tanu Weds Manu" helmer feels films talking about bold subjects made in an interesting and entertaining manner should be treated as family entertainers.
"There should be no hesitation (to present such stories) as that is how we will grow and progress. When I see Shoojit Sircar making 'Piku' or 'Vicky Donor', I like it. I feel we should enjoy such cinema more. It should be treated as a family film, treat it like a Sooraj Barjatya film."
"As a student of cinema and (a) part of this film industry, I take the responsibility to make certain kind of films in a certain way, whether as a director or producer. It is high time we talk about things," he says.
