Thieves targeting Metro commuters held
Press Trust of India New Delhi Police today arrested two alleged thieves, who used to target Delhi Metro commuters by cutting their bags with blade, and recovered Rs 4 lakh stolen money from their possession.
Ombir, a resident of Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, and Dharma, hailing from Panipat in Haryana were nabbed, police said.
"They used to travel in Metro and randomly identify a passenger carrying cash. One of them would cut the bag with blade and take out money. They would then disperse in the train and de-board from separate gates," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Sanjay Bhatia said.
A trader, who was carrying Rs 20 lakh cash, was targeted on January 22 by the accused.
"He had kept Rs 20 lakh in a bag and boarded the Metro at Kashmere Gate for Chandni Chowk. When he deboarded at Chandni Chowk, he realised that the bag has become lighter. When he checked, he found a cut at the bottom of the bag and Rs 5 lakh missing," Bhatia said.
