"I have read an interview in a national newspaper. There are statements like cracking down on pubs and bars in Goa. We will break the hands of those who are trying to play with law and order," Parrikar told reporters this evening without naming Muthalik.

Muthalik, who is here to participate in All India Hindu Convention, said in an interview to a newspaper that they planned to set up a wing of Sri Ram Sene in Goa and would deal with pubs and parties severely.

Sri Ram Sene was in the news in 2009 after its activists had allegedly manhandled youths in a Mangalore pub.

"No one has a right to take law in hands. If they have some complaint, they can approach the authorities, they can come to me also," Parrikar said adding "no one has a right to do moral policing in Goa."

The chief minister said if anyone finds that illegal activities like prostitution were happening in the state, they could inform the police who would crack down on them.

Asked whether Sene would be allowed to open its wing in Goa, Parrikar said "our country is democratic. I will not stop anyone from opening the wing as long as they believe in law and order."

"They have to work within the framework of law," he said.
