Thousands throng Hazratbal shrine on Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi

Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, was today celebrated across Kashmir with thousands of devotees thronging Hazratbal Shrine which houses the prophet's relic.
Thousands of devotees offered afternoon prayers at the Hazratbal Shrine. The holy relic of Prophet Muhammad was displayed by its custodian after the prayers, officials said.
Many devotees from far flung areas of the Valley had arrived at the Shrine last night in order to offer the morning prayers at Hazratbal.
The Muslim Auqaf Trust, which manages the affairs of the shrine, had made arrangements for the devotees.
Milad processions were taken out in in the city and several parts of the Valley, the officials said adding the processions dispersed off peacefully.
Hazratbal Shrine and many other mosques were decorated and illuminated with florescent lights while special religious flags were hoisted atop some buildings and vehicles to mark the occasion.
