Three suspected Maoists were arrested during a joint search operation by security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district today.
The alleged Maoist cadres were apprehended from dense Lingagiri forests close to Dharmapur village under Basaguda police station limits, Bijapur Superintendent of Police K L Dhruv said.
A joint team of the Compact Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), an elite wing of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the district police force was on a combing exercise in the Basaguda region, about 400 km from here, he said.
After reaching Lingagiri forests, the team spotted the three suspects trying to escape into the core forest area when they were chased and nabbed, the SP said.
Those arrested were identified as Uika Hunga (25), Uika Soma (37) and Uika Sudaru (20), he said, adding that during interrogation, they "admitted being involved in the Maoist movement as "sangham" members".
They are being interrogated, he said.
