Nathu, Mohan and Shanti were arrested yesterday from near the New Delhi Railway Station after a woman complained that they had duped her of ornaments and money.

The woman, Niza Shazudeen, complained to police personnel on patrol that two people came to her shop in Mayur Vihar in east Delhi a few days back and informed that they had found some gold jewellery in a field and wanted to sell it.

The next day, the duo and their associate again visited her house and the deal was finalised for Rs 2 lakhs for selling the jewellery.

Yesterday, the woman went there with Rs 15,000 and they gave four chains to her. She reported the matter to police who arrested them.

During interrogation, Shanti disclosed that she was a follower of a Baba in Alwar and he asked her to make fool of the gullible, innocent people by selling fake gold ornaments to them and earn huge profit.

"Baba also told her that he will provide her the ornaments and a few article of real gold which can be used as samples. After this, she along with other accomplices started selling fake ornaments to people," Devesh Chandra Srivastva, Additional Commissioner of Police, Central District, said.
