Three arrested for demanding extortion from former MP
Press Trust of India Bagaha Bihar Police today arrested three persons from a village in West Champaran district on charges of threatening former MP Puranmasi Ram and demanding Rs 5 crore extortion from him.
Bagaha DSP Lalit Mohan said the accused were arrested from Julahi village in a raid conducted by a special police team. They include the prime accused Gorkha Yadav.
The former MP had lodged a police complaint yesterday that he was threatened by an unknown caller that he and his family members will be wiped out if Rs 5 crore was not given.
Before becoming an MP, Ram had been five times MLA in a row and served as a state minister.
Police officials said the accused have confessed to their involvement in the incident and revealed that they wanted to implicate another youth in it to take revenge for a previous dispute.
