Three Delhi Police constables, including one posted in Special Cell, allegedly tried to extort Rs 20 lakh from the owner of a flat after barging into its premises in southwest Delhi's Dwarka Sector 10.
The constables -- identified as Sandeep (26) posted at Special Cell, Dinesh Kumar of Security unit and Prashant of 4th Batallion -- have been arrested under charges of house trespass and extortion, a senior police official said.
The incident came to light this morning when the complainant called up the police and reported that three persons had forcibly entered his apartment and were searching the premises, claiming to be Delhi Police officials.
The men then told the complainant that they have learnt about "wrong activities" taking place in the flat and allegedly demanded Rs 20 lakh to settle the matter. They even allegedly pointed a gun at him, the official said.
A police team rushed to the spot and the accused were apprehended. Their identity cards turned out to be genuine.
The accused have also been suspended and departmental inquiry has been initiated, the official added.
