National Thermal Power Corporation had earlier agreed to set up a medical college and hospital in Sundergarh district, National Aluminium Company Limited at Koraput and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited at Talcher in Angul district as part of CSR.

"We have asked the three CPSUs to start medical colleges from the 2014 academic year which begins in June-July," Health and Family Welfare minister Damodar Rout told reporters here after reviewing the progress of establishment of medical colleges in the state.

Stating that the state government has provided land for the medical colleges, Rout said work should be expedited to meet the 2014 target.

Rout said four other private medical college hospital developers also attended the review meeting.

The four private medical college hospitals would be established in PPP mode in the state with 2014 suggested as the deadline, he added.

Though the state has three government run medical colleges producing more than 300 medical graduates annually, it faced an acute shortage of doctors, the minister said.

Three other medical colleges in the private sector have meanwhile started functioning in the state, he said.
