Delhi Development Minister Gopal Rai today suspended three engineers of Flood and Irrigation Department for allegedly using poor quality raw material to construct a community centre in north-west Delhi's Najafgarh area.
The minister's move comes after he received several complaints from the local residents about the engineers allegedly using poor quality raw material to build the community centre in Harijan Basti situated in Khaira village.
Rai, who also holds the charge of Flood and Irrigation Department, has formed a probe committee to be headed by Special Commissioner (Development).
"Minister visited the construction site and found poor construction material being used to build the community centre this morning. It is the project of development department.
"As per preliminary investigation, Rai found assistant engineer, junior engineer and zonal superintending engineer guilty. Thereafter, he suspended all the three officials," a senior government official said.
The official also said that a sample of construction material was also picked up from the site and sent to a laboratory for examination.
"All three officials will remain suspended till the committee's report comes. In the committee, MLAs - Rajesh Gehlot and Gulab Singh - will also be members," the official added.
