Three film festivals for movie buffs

Movie buffs in the national capital are in for a treat as Information and Broadcasting ministry has lined up three film festivals.
The best of international cinema will be screened these festivals which started with four-day-long Iranian film festival inaugurated yesterday by Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore at the Siri Fort Auditorium here. This is being organised to celebrate 60 years of Indo-Iran cultural ties.
Rathore said the ministry would explore the possibility of showcasing Indian films in Iran and also hinted at arranging visits of popular Bollywood actors to that country.
Iranian film festival will be followed by eight-day-long European Union film festival, starting July 30.
According to officials, the Department of Film Festivals, under the I&B ministry, along withDelegation of the European Union of India is organsing "European Union film festival" at Siri Fort Auditoirium from July 30 to August 6.
23 films will be screened at the festival which will be attended by theEU Ambassadors, Deputy Heads of Mission.

The festival will open with the screening of famous Danish film'Stille Hjerte' (Silent Heart). The film is directed by Danish award-winning film and television director Bille August, whose 1987 film 'Pelle-the Conqueror'had won the Palme d'Or (Golden Plam) andGolden Globe awards.
'Stille Hjerte' was premiered at the San Sebastian International Film Festivalwhere it received a 20 minutes standing ovation, officials said.
After the Iranian and European Union film festivals, the ministry will organise a week-long film festival on the occasion of Independence Day, official sources said, adding films on the themes of independence and patriotism will be showed.
