Two days after an audacious heist in which Rs 2.5 crore was looted from a van carrying cash meant for Axis Bank near here, police today arrested three persons and recovered Rs 41 lakh from them.
Police suspect that the trio Chandrashekhar Mudliar, Selvan Mudliar and Wasim Sheikh who travelled in the van allegedly tipped the robbers about the movement of huge cash from Akola to Nagpur, according to an officer.
In a daring robbery that occurred on the busy Nagpur-Amravati national highway on March 7, around seven unidentified persons sitting in a black SUV, intercepted at gun point a private van, carrying the cash from Akola to Nagpur near Sonpur in the district, before decamping with the box containing the cash.
"Teams of Nagpur (Rural) and Wardha police were formed and a dragnet has been spread to track the accused who drove in a black SUV", Nagpur SP (Rural) Dr Manoj Sharma told PTI today.
